A jury has found a 29-year-old Streamwood man guilty of strangling and sexually abusing a young girl over an approximately 6-month period in 2023-2024.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today Quinton K. Hawkins has been found guilty of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class X felony; Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 felony; and Aggravated Domestic Battery – Strangulation, a Class 2 felony (2 counts).
According to prosecutors, on multiple occasions between August 1, 2023, and March 15, 2024, Hawkins strangled and sexually assaulted the young child. There was evidence that Hawkins attempted to keep the child quiet by telling her if she told anyone, they would die.
The assaults were uncovered when the child told her teacher and school social worker about the strangulation. The school notified the Elgin Police Department, who contacted the Kane County Child Advocacy Center to take over the case.
Hawkins was found guilty on August 13 following a three-day jury trial.
Hawkins’ next court appearance has been set for October 14 at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. Hawkins faces a sentence of between 6 and 67 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
In addition to the prison term, Hawkins must register as a sexual offender for life in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Hawkins remains in custody at the Kane County Jail.
“I am grateful this child had a teacher and social worker she could trust to begin to talk about the abuse she was suffering,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Stacey Wittman. “Despite the threats made to her, she bravely told trusted adults about her abuse and bravely came in to testify before a jury. My thanks to Assistant State’s Attorney Kathryn Wuerstl and the multidisciplinary team at the Kane County Child Advocacy Center: Investigator Dave Smith, DCFS Investigator Amanda Glaesmer, forensic interviewer Sara Innocenti, and victim advocate Kallie Sakamoto for their excellent work in this case.”
