DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Naperville Chief of Police Jason Arres announced today that Judge Anthony Coco granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for two Naperville men accused of beating a man outside a Naperville apartment complex and then breaking into an apartment at the complex.
Police allege that in the early morning hours of Thanksgiving, two Naperville men travelled from Maywood to an apartment complex located in the 1500 block of West Jefferson Avenue to confront an individual with whom they had been communicating. Upon their arrival, the men encountered an individual outside the complex and a physical altercation ensued during which the victim sustained a broken nose as well as fractures to other bones in his face.
According to police, the men then broke into one of the apartment units by kicking down the door and, once inside, the pair made verbal threats to the occupant before attempting to flee the scene. Both men were taken into custody at the scene.
The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical attention. He is expected to require surgery as a result of the battery.
The two suspects have each been charged with one count of Home Invasion (Class X Felony) and one count of Aggravated Battery (Class 3 Felony).
“The type of senseless, violent attack that sent an innocent man to the hospital with serious facial injuries, as alleged in this case, has no place in civilized society and will not be tolerated in DuPage County,” Berlin said. “The victim in this case has a long road to recovery ahead of him and I wish him well as he recovers both physically and emotionally.”
The next court appearance for both men is scheduled for December 18, 2023, for arraignment in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
