A 29-year-old Aurora man has been charged with murder and kidnapping, among other felonies, after crashing his vehicle into another vehicle on I-94 Friday evening.

The accused has been charged with three counts of First-Degree Murder (a Class M Felony), Aggravated Battery – Deadly Weapon Not a Firearm (a Class 3 Felony), Kidnapping (a Class 2 Felony), and Unlawful Restraint (a Class 4 Felony).

According to the Illinois State Police, on Friday at around 5:50pm, the accused was driving northbound on I-94 with a passenger, 28-year-old Victory A. Swanigan of Chicago, when a verbal altercation prompted the accused to turn the vehicle around and began driving at a high rate of speed in the wrong direction, heading south into the northbound express lanes. Near 53rd Street, his vehicle struck another car, resulting in the fatal injury to Swanigan. Both the accused and the other driver were transported to area hospitals with injuries.

The accused was transported to the Riverdale Police Department and is being held pending his first court appearance.
