A 22-year-old Sugar Grove man has been charged with multiple felony DUI charges after allegedly causing a fatal 4-vehicle crash on IL-71 Saturday evening.
According to the Illinois State Police, at approximately 9:15pm on Saturday ISP Troopers responded to a crash on IL-71 just past Walker Road, south of Millbrook. The accused was driving a pickup truck southbound on IL-71 and allegedly entered the northbound lanes to pass multiple vehicles. The truck struck an SUV head-on causing a four-vehicle crash.
A passenger from the SUV, 38-year-old Amy L. Witter, was pronounced deceased on scene. The other three SUV occupants were transported to area hospitals and two of them, 61-year-old James D. Witter and a 4-year-old girl, were later pronounced deceased. The deceased were all family members from Des Moines, Iowa. The accused was also injured in the crash.
On Sunday, ISP presented the case to the Kendall County State’s Attorney’s Office, which approved six counts of Aggravated DUI involving Death (a Class 2 Felony), two counts of Aggravated DUI Involving Great Bodily Harm (a Class 4 Felony), and multiple traffic offenses.
The accused remains in custody at the Kendall County Jail pending his first court appearance.
