Three men are in custody after being charged with armed robbery, mob action, and other felonies following an investigation into an incident that occurred Thursday morning in Naperville.
According to Naperville police, officers were called to the 1700 block of West Ogden Avenue just after 4am Thursday for a report of an armed robbery. Once on scene, the officers learned that the two female victims had allegedly arrived at the location so one of them could fight a 19-year-old male from Montgomery who was known to the women. During the fight, two other suspects – later identified as a 19-year-old male from Montgomery and a 19-year-old male from Naperville – allegedly displayed a handgun, battered the second victim, and took the victims’ belongings, including a backpack containing a firearm. The three men had fled the scene on foot prior to police arrival.
The Montgomery suspect was located by police a short time later trying to leave the area in a ride-share. He was allegedly in possession of the stolen firearm. Further investigation led to the identification of the Naperville male as a second suspect. A search warrant was executed at his residence on the 700 block of Violet Circle in Naperville early that afternoon, resulting in his arrest and the arrest of the remaining suspect, as well as the recovery of the handgun allegedly used during the incident. Additional items allegedly stolen during the earlier encounter were also discovered.
All three suspects have been charged with two counts of Armed Robbery with a Firearm (Class X felony) and one count of Mob Action (Class 4 felony). The Oswego and Montgomery suspects were each also charged with two counts of Aggravated Battery (Class 3 felony).
“Violent crimes such as armed robbery have no place in our community,” said Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres. “These charges reflect the seriousness of the allegations and the commitment of the Naperville Police Department to aggressively investigate violent crimes, seek justice for victims, and hold those responsible accountable.”
