A 29-year-old convicted felon from Aurora was arrested Tuesday afternoon after investigators from the Aurora Police Special Operations Group (SOG), with assistance from the Community Oriented Policing (COP) Unit and K9 officers, executed a search warrant at his residence, resulting in the recovery of firearms, narcotics, and drug-related paraphernalia.
According to police, at approximately 5:00pm, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Evans Avenue as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. Prior to the warrant being served, officers observed the suspect leaving the residence and conducted a traffic stop, taking him into custody without incident. Investigators were aware that the was also wanted on an unrelated warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance.
During the traffic stop, officers recovered a stolen Glock 19 handgun loaded with a 30-round extended magazine. The suspect was also found in possession of suspected cocaine, cannabis, Xanax, and Adderall.
A subsequent search of the residence resulted in the recovery of an Archangel .22-caliber rifle, additional suspected narcotics, multiple digital scales, and other drug-related paraphernalia commonly associated with the distribution of controlled substances.
Based on the investigation and evidence recovered, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office charged the suspect with Armed Violence – Category I Weapon (Class X Felony); Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance – Cocaine, Less Than 15 Grams (Class 1 Felony); Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Felony); Felon in Possession of a Weapon – two counts (Class 2 Felonies); and Possession of a Controlled Substance – three counts (Class 4 Felonies).
The suspect remains in custody at the Kane County Adult Justice Center pending further court proceedings.
