An Elgin man and woman are in custody in connection with an alleged armed robbery and carjacking in Elgin mid-day Monday.

According to police, at approximately 12:15pm Monday officers responded to the area of the 700 block of Bluff City Boulevard for a report of an armed robbery. They spoke to the adult female victim who reported that an unknown male and female subject approached her as she was sitting in her vehicle, with the male subject displaying a firearm and demanding that she exit her vehicle. Both male and female subjects then proceeded to enter the victim’s vehicle and leave the area.

The victim was not injured in this incident.

A short time later, officers from the Bartlett Police Department located the victim’s vehicle traveling east on U.S. Route 20 and attempted to stop it. The vehicle failed to stop, and Bartlett officers last observed it in the vicinity of Illinois Route 390 and Irving Park Road. Later, officers from the Villa Park Police Department located the vehicle in the area of Illinois Route 290 and Route 83, at which point they attempted to stop the vehicle with assistance from the Illinois State Police.

The vehicle was subsequently stopped at Van Buren Street and Springfield Avenue in Chicago, and the male subject, identified as a 37-year-old Elgin man, and the female subject identified as a 37-year-old also from Elgin, were taken into custody without incident.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged the male suspect with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking (Class X Felony); Armed Violence (Class X Felony); Unlawful Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony); 2 counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Class 4 Felony); and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony).

The female suspect has been charged with Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 2 Felony) and Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony).

Both suspects will be transported to the Kane County Justice Center for a Pre-Trial Detention Hearing.
