The Kane County Cougars, in Winnipeg for a series against the Winnipeg Goldeneyes, had its team bus destroyed in a fire allegedly set deliberately by a local teen girl.

According to Winnipeg police, early Thursday morning at approximately 1:50am, General Patrol officers from multiple districts immediately responded to the Cougars’ tour bus which was fully engulfed in flames while parked at 1 Portage Avenue (Goldeyes Stadium). The bus was parked after hours while on a road trip to Winnipeg. The entire bus and contents were destroyed.

A witness observed someone inside the bus and assisted in removing them. Upon police arrival, two teens were taken into custody. Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service extinguished the fire and no injuries were reported.

Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set, and one of the teens – a 15-year-old female – is facing charges of Arson Causing Damage to Property, and Posession of Incendiary Material.

She was released into the custody of a responsible adult pending further proceedings.
