A 47-year-old Sugar Grove man has pleaded guilty to a fatal hit-and-run in October 2022 that killed a 69-year-old woman.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that Mark Wiskur has pleaded guilty to the offense of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death, a Class 1 felony.

According to prosecutors, on October 12, 2024, at approximately 10:30pm, the Sugar Grove Police Department and Sugar Grove Fire Protection District responded to the area of 1900 Fay’s Lane for an accident with injuries where they discovered 69-year-old Elaine Zielke, a Sugar Grove resident from Dugan Woods subdivision, who had been struck by an unknown vehicle and was lying in the street. Sugar Grove Fire Protection District rendered aid to her but she was later pronounced deceased at Ascension Mercy Medical Center in Aurora. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be multiple injuries from a vehicle to a pedestrian.

A nine-month-long investigation culminated on July 22, 2025, with a Kane County Grand Jury returning an indictment charging Wiskur for failing to remain at the scene of an accident when he knew that the accident involved death or injury to another person. A warrant was issued for Wiskur’s arrest, and he turned himself in to police later that day.

Wiskur’s next court appearance, for sentencing, is set for August 6, 2026, at 1:30pm in Courtroom 305 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
