An update from the Batavia Police Department regarding the alleged hit-and-run incident yesterday morning indicates that, using security cameras in the area, officers were able to identify a suspect vehicle.
This morning at approximately 5:19am, Batavia police officers located a black Toyota Highlander matching the description of the offending vehicle. Following investigation, the driver of vehicle involved in the alleged hit-and-run was identified as a 28-year-old North Aurora man who has now been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Injury Accident, a Class 2 Felony; Failure to Report an Accident, a Class A Misdemeanor; Failure to Give Aid or Information, a Class A misdemeanor; and Failure to Yield to Pedestrian in Crosswalk, a Petty Offense.
The Batavia Police Department has issued a request for the public’s assistance in identifying the vehicle and/or driver implicated in a hit-and-run early this morning which resulted in injuries to the victim.
According to Batavia police, this morning at approximately 5:34am a vehicle struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk and fled the scene without stopping. The crash occurred as the vehicle was traveling northbound on Route 25 and turning left (westbound) onto East Wilson Street. The vehicle was last seen in the area of Route 31.
The pedestrian sustained injuries as a result of the incident.
