A 27-year-old Elgin man was killed last Wednesday when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV in St. Charles. The driver of the SUV allegedly left the scene of the accident before authorities could arrive.

On Wednesday at approximately 8:52pm, the St. Charles Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue for a traffic crash involving injuries. It was reported at the time that an SUV and a motorcycle were involved in the crash, and a witness on scene reported that the driver of the involved SUV may have fled the scene.

Upon arrival, police and fire located the injured driver of the motorcycle and immediately began to render treatment. The motorcyclist was subsequently transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. His identity has not yet been released.

St. Charles Police located the SUV and the driver, a 29-year-old West Chicago woman, nearby. Further investigation into the crash resulted in her arrest.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged the suspect with Failure to Report Crash or Death (a Class-1 Felony); Aggravated DUI – Crash Causing Death (a Class-2 Felony, 2-Counts); Reckless Homicide (a Class 3 Felony); Possession of Controlled Substance – Other Drug (a Class 4 Felony); and four additional traffic citations.

The suspect has been transported to the Kane County Jail for a conditions and detention hearing.
