A Naperville woman who, in November 2020, shot and killed her boyfriend and then used video-chat to confront his other girlfriend while he lay dead in the background was convicted of murder on Friday after a four-day-long trial.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced Friday that a jury has found Rosa Lagrone, 40, guilty in the murder of her boyfriend Darnell Manns in November 2020. The jury returned their guilty verdict against following approximately two and one half hours of deliberations. The trial was in front of Judge Daniel Guerin.
According to prosecutors, on November 6, 2020, at approximately 2:16pm, Lagrone and Manns were at her home located in the 0-100 block of 25W Keswick Lane in unincorporated Naperville, arguing about Manns dating another woman. The argument escalated resulting in Lagrone shooting Manns once with a pistol, striking him in an arm and his torso. The investigation later revealed that the bullet Lagrone fired went through Manns’ arm and lodged in his spine.
Following the shooting, Lagrone used Manns’ Facebook page to live video-chat with the woman whom Manns had been dating while he was on the floor in the background in a pool of blood. Manns was transported to a local hospital for medical attention but passed away three days later from injuries he sustained from the shooting.
Initially charged with one count of Attempted Murder, one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm and one count of Domestic Battery, Lagrone appeared in Bond Court on November 8, 2020, where bond was set at $1.5 million with 10% to apply. On November 19, 2020, the State indicted Lagrone on five additional charges of First Degree Murder. On December 7, 2020, the State filed a motion to either deny bail for Lagrone or increase her bond to $3 million. That motion was denied and she has remained in custody at the DuPage County Jail since that time held on the original bond of $1.5 million.
“While today’s guilty verdict will not bring Darnell back to those who loved him, it does reveal the truth about what happened on November 6, 2020, and holds Rosa Lagrone accountable for the murder of Darnell Manns,” Berlin said. “I thank the jury for their service on the very sad case as well as Judge Guerin for ensuring a fair trial for both sides.”
Lagrone’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 1, 2026, for return of the Pre-sentence Report and post-trial motions.
