Firefighters successfully extricated the driver of a vehicle that had slid off a driveway, overturned and settled upside down in a creek in Elgin Thursday morning.
At approximately 9:09am on Thursday, the Pingree Grove & Countryside Fire Protection District responded to the 9N600 block of Kendall Road after a report of a vehicle leaving a driveway and overturning into a creek.
Upon arrival, fire personnel found a vehicle upside down and partially submerged in water. One occupant was trapped inside. Firefighters quickly began a rescue and extracted the person within 10 minutes.

The victim had minor injuries and showed signs of hypothermia from exposure to the cold
water. Paramedics provided on-scene medical care, and the patient was transported to a
local hospital for further evaluation.
Two engines, one ambulance, and two chief officers from Pingree Grove FPD responded to
the scene. The Kane County Sheriff’s Office also assisted. Initial information indicates that ice on
the driveway contributed to the vehicle leaving the road.
The incident is still under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.
