A 26-year-old Lake In The Hills man has been found guilty of murder in a 2020 road rage incident on Route 31 in Elgin.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced yesterday that a jury found Dru K. Jarvis guilty of First-Degree Murder, a Class M felony; Attempt First-Degree Murder, a Class X felony; and Armed Violence, a Class X felony.

According prosecutors, early in the morning of August 22, 2020, Jarvis was a passenger in a white sedan traveling south on Route 31 in Elgin. Francisco Trujillo-Uscanga, 41, of Elgin, was also traveling south on Route 31 as the passenger in a light blue Mini Cooper. The driver of the Mini Cooper was Trujillo-Uscanga’s coworker, and they were heading home from their place of work in Huntley.

Jarvis’s white sedan attempted to enter the lane of the Mini Cooper, and the Mini Cooper’s driver honked his horn. The sedan pulled alongside the Mini Cooper near the intersection at Kimball Street, and Jarvis fired multiple gunshots striking Trujillo-Uscanga in the torso. He died a short time later at AMITA Health St. Joseph Hospital. The driver was struck with multiple gunshots in the legs.

One week later, on August 29, 2020, Jarvis committed a shooting on the 300 block of South McLean Boulevard in Elgin. Jarvis was arrested and charged, and in 2021 found guilty of Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon and sentenced to four years in prison. Jarvis’s arrest in the August 29 shooting helped investigators connect him to the August 22 murder.

Judge Barsanti set Jarvis’s next court appearance for December 3, 2025 at 1:30 p.m., in Courtroom 319 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions.

“This tragic case is a stark reminder of how quickly anger behind the wheel can turn into irreversible violence,” Assistant State’s Attorney Mark Stajdohar said after the verdict. “There was absolutely no reason for this shooting: someone honked a horn, and an innocent man lost his life. Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones as they continue to grieve this senseless loss.”

Jarvis faces a minimum sentence of 96 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The Murder and Attempt Murder charges both include mandatory add-ons of 25 Years to Life because prosecutors proved that Jarvis personally discharged the firearm.
