Kane County Sheriff’s Deputy Dalton Keller was formally recognized by the Kane County Board for his courageous actions during a life-threatening domestic violence incident that occurred in the early hours of May 31.

At approximately 12:09am., Deputy Keller responded to a 911 call reporting a violent disturbance at a residence in Big Rock. Upon arriving at the scene, Deputy Keller observed a 71-year-old woman being physically attacked by a younger man.

Keller swiftly forced entry into the home and subdued the attacker, taking him into custody. The suspect was later charged with attempted murder in connection with the assault.

In recognition of his decisive actions, which Sheriff Ron Hain said likely saved the victim’s life, the Kane County Board presented Deputy Keller with an Honorary Commendation of Courage during its June meeting.

Sheriff Hain praised Keller’s bravery, noting that this incident highlights both the dangers deputies face and the critical role they play in protecting the community.

The 18-year-old who was arrested was also charged with  two counts of aggravated domestic battery, one count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm to a person 60 years old or older, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, two counts of domestic battery, one count of resisting an officer and one county of possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor,
