Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Geneva Chief of Police Eric Passarelli announced Thursday that Judge Julia Yetter has granted the State’s motion to detain pre-trial a Geneva man accused of stabbing his girlfriend and her son last December.
The suspect appeared in court Tuesday for a pretrial detention hearing charged with four counts of first-degree murder, a class M felony.
The suspect is accused of stabbing his girlfriend, Christina L. Chavira, age 47, and her son, D.C., age 13, multiple times causing their deaths on the day after Christmas. According to police, he was found with both victims after police forcibly entered the residence in the 2700 block of Emmas Way on the evening of December 26. The victims were unresponsive and injured with multiple stab wounds. Christina Chavira was treated by medics on site and transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased. Chavira’s son, D.C., was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center, but succumbed to his wounds and was also pronounced deceased. The suspect surrendered to police officers and was transported to the Geneva Police Station.
The Kane County Coroner’s Office was called to the hospital to assist in the investigation of Chavira’s death. Chavira’s body was transported to the Kane County Morgue, where an autopsy was conducted on December 27, 2024. Preliminary findings indicated that the cause of death is consistent with multiple stab wounds.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office conducted the autopsy on the second victim and found the manner of death to be a homicide caused by multiple stab wounds.
The suspect was charged on December 27, 2024. He will remain detained in the Kane County jail. His next court date is scheduled for February 27, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. in courtroom 211 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
