A 31-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning near the intersection of Route 25 and Fabyan Parkway in Geneva.
At 4:54am Sunday, Geneva and Batavia Police officers discovered a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado off the road on the south side of the Fox River bridge embankment just off Fabyan Parkway. The driver of the vehicle, Carlos Diaz, Jr., of Aurora, had been ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, the Silverado was traveling west on Fabyan Parkway when it veered across eastbound lanes of traffic and went off the roadway before the foot of the bridge. The truck’s airbags did deploy, but Diaz was not wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers in the truck.
The Fabyan Parkway bridge was closed several hours while the Geneva Police Department, the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Kane County Coroner’s Office investigated the crash.
The cause of the crash remains unclear. The Kane County Coroner’s Office will be performing an autopsy.
