An Elgin man has been found guilty of sexually abusing a child over a nineteen-month period beginning in October 2021.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that a jury has found 36-year-old Ernesto Velasquez-Jimenez guilty of Predatory Criminal Sex Assault of a child, a Class X felony (3 counts), and Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse of a child, a Class 2 felony (7 counts).
Prosecutors asserted that between the dates of October 1, 2021 and June 3, 2023 Velasquez-Jimenez sexually abused the victim on multiple dates. The defendant touched the victim, who was under the age of 13, both over and under the clothing. Evidence was also presented that the defendant sexually abused the victim’s sister in DuPage County.
Judge D.J. Tegeler set Velasquez-Jimenez’s next court appearance for December 13, 2024 at 1:30pm, in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center for motions and sentencing. Judge Tegeler also ordered him taken into custody at the Kane County jail.
Velasquez-Jimenez faces a minimum sentence of 21 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections. In addition to the prison term, Velasquez-Jimenez must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
“The defendant’s repeated conduct will forever change the lives of the children he abused, but their bravery in coming forward will make sure it will not happen again,” Assistant State’s Attorneys Morgan Wilkinson said after the verdict. “Their voices were heard and they received the justice they deserved.”
