An Elgin man is in custody after allegedly attacking a juvenile who was using the football field behind Thompson Middle School in St. Charles.

On Saturday at approximately 2:00pm, St. Charles Police officers responded to a report by a juvenile victim that he was approached and battered unprovoked by a man not known to him while on the football field behind Thompson Middle School.

According to the St. Charles Police Department, after striking the juvenile the 21-year-old suspect immediately ran westbound from the area. He was subsequently located in the 1300 block of West Main Street, where he then fled from an officer on foot. After a brief pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect has been charged with two counts of Aggravted Battery Public Way, a Class 3 Felony; Battery Causing Bodily Harm, a Class A felony; Battery Making Physical Contact, a Class A felony; and Resisting A Peace Officer, a Class A felony.

No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
