A 54-year-old Naperville woman was killed when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a Jeep Wrangler on Naperville’s north side Saturday morning.
According to a Naperville news release, at 10:21am Saturday Naperville Police Department and Naperville Fire Department personnel were dispatched to the intersection of West Ogden Avenue and Royal Saint George Drive for a traffic accident, where they found an unconscious female who appeared to have suffered a serious head injury as a result of the accident.
The injured female was identified as Isabel Dimas-Jimenez, a resident of Naperville. Dimas-Jimenez was transported to a local hospital where she later passed away from her injuries.
According to the release, a preliminary investigation indicates that a Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 44-year-old Wheaton woman, was traveling westbound on Ogden Avenue when the driver proceeded to make a left turn onto southbound Royal Saint George Drive on a solid green light. The Jeep collided with a bicyclist, Ms. Dimas-Jimenez, who was traveling eastbound in the crosswalk on the south side of Ogden Avenue.
Due to the nature of the crash, traffic crash investigators and reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police Department’s Traffic Unit responded to the scene. The roadway remained closed until approximately 2pm.
