An Aurora man is in custody after being charged with the kidnapping of a 17-year-old in Aurora.

Early Wednesday afternoon, police were notified by the victim that she had been kidnapped in the area of Illinois Avenue and Orchard Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene and learned the victim was walking in a nearby neighborhood when a man, unknown to her, began following her. As she walked on the sidewalk in the 700 block of Orchard Avenue, the man quickly grabbed her from behind, covered her mouth with his hand, and dragged her away from the sidewalk. The victim was able to free herself from the man, at which time the man fled on foot.

After a description of the man was broadcast to Aurora Police officers, within approximately 90 minutes a possible suspect was located near North Avenue and River Street. The man, a 19-year-old from Aurora, was positively identified and taken into custody pending further investigation.

After further investigation by detectives from the Aurora Police Department, the suspect was charged with Kidnapping, a class 2 felony; Attempted Kidnapping, a class 3 felony; Aggravated Battery, a class 3 felony; and Battery, a class A misdemeanor.

The suspect was transported to the Kane County Jail and held for a pre-trial hearing.
