Prairie Star
Acquaviva Winery’s wine of the month for May is Prairie Star. Prairie Star is a cold climate grape variety that was developed in the 1980s in Wisconsin as a table grape. Its juice quickly showed great promise for high quality winemaking, so many Midwestern vineyards began to plant it in the early 2000s. Acquaviva’s Prairie Star vineyards were planted in 2005.

Our award winning Prairie Star wine has aromas of peaches, grapefruit, citrus, spice and floral notes with a fresh sensation of ripe pears and green apples. This semi-dry full body white wine is 100% Prairie Star with 2% RS. Ideal food pairings include goat cheese, fish, spicy dishes and desserts. Available at both our Maple Park and Batavia locations.

Alphonse Mellot, Cotes de la Charite, Pinot Noir, 2020 – $29.99
Great value! Although known for Sauvignon Blanc, we’ve become particularly taken with the estate’s Pinot Noir. Both certified organic and biodynamic, the wine offers a unique twist on what the Loire Valley is generally known for. “This 100% Pinot Noir red has a nose opening to aromas of red fruits, a deep crimson robe and a crisp, sensual palate with an excellent fresh finish of real finesse. A first-rate quaffing wine, the hardest thing of all to do is manage to forget it in the cellar for a while to bring out its full intensity.” ~ Winery Notes. Biodynamic certified!

This bold red wine blooms into a luscious bouquet of black cherry and delicate spices. A hint of toasted oak and a long finish pairs well with brisket and BBQ.
