(Editor’s Note: In our original report we identified the victim as a man. She was, in fact, a woman.)

An 18-year-old Maple Park woman was killed yesterday morning when her vehicle was hit by a semi-truck as she was turning into Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove.

At approximately 9:04am, Sugar Grove police and fire personnel were called to the intersection of Route 47 and Waubonsee Drive where they found an SUV and semi-truck off the roadway. It was determined that a 2018 Chevy Trax, driven by the Maple Park woman, had been headed southbound on Route 47 when, while attempting to turn left onto Waubonsee Drive, it was struck by the semi-truck travelling northbound on Route 47.

The Maple Park woman, whose identity is being withheld upon notice of her family, was declared deceased at a local hospital. The driver of the semi-truck, a 42-year-old man from Pennsylvania, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by the Sugar Grove Police Department. Anyone having any information is requested to call 630-391-7250.
