A 38-year-old Elgin man has pleaded guilty in the strangulation death of his wife in July 2021.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced today that Victor H. Ayllon pleaded guilty to the offense of first-degree murder, a Class M felony.
Judge DJ Tegeler accepted the plea and set Ayllon’s next court appearance for June 20 at 1:30pm in Courtroom 313 at the Kane County Judicial Center for sentencing.
According to prosecutors, on July 12, 2021, a 4-year-old boy was found during the evening hours walking alone at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue and North Aldine Aveue in Elgin. Officers were able to determine his address in the 300 block of Heine Avenue, and upon arriving at his home they first encountered a 3-year-old boy in the front doorway. Entering the home further, officers found the body of Wendy Ayllon on the floor. The victim was unresponsive and believed to be deceased. The victim was the mother of both the 3-year-old and the 4-year-old.
Investigators subsequently found her husband Victor at the home of his parents with faint marks on his wrists. He was taken to the hospital and subsequently released to the police.
Investigators learned that the victim in this case had picked up the defendant in the early morning hours on July 12. They had arrived back at the home at 2:16am. The defendant left the home via car at 3:16am. A camera within the home captured the sound of arguing and the victim screaming followed by a thud during this time period.
Victor Ayllon was interviewed and admitted that he and the victim had been in an argument after which he strangled the victim to death and left her body with the two minor children.
An autopsy confirmed that the victim died of manual strangulation.
Ayllon faces a sentence of 20-60 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a 4-year mandatory supervised release period.
Ayllon remains in custody at the Kane County jail.
“The heinous action of the defendant, who callously strangled his wife to death and left her body with their two young children, is utterly reprehensible,” Mosser said in a statement. “His selfish attempt to evade responsibility for his abhorrent actions demonstrates a complete disregard for human life and parental duty. The guilty plea secured today brings some measure of justice for Wendy Ayllon, whose life was tragically cut short, and her family. We will continue to seek the appropriate punishment for this senseless act of violence. Our thoughts remain with the victims, particularly the young children who have been left traumatized by this horrific ordeal.”
