Former Naperville Fireman Charged With Official Miconduct, Theft

A former Naperville fire fighter has been charged with official misconduct and other felonies for allegedly breaking into a parked car and stealing prescription drugs from an NFD drop box.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced yesterday that the suspect is facing official misconduct and additional charges for allegedly stealing prescription drugs from a Naperville prescription drug drop box and burglarizing a motor vehicle. On Monday, the Naperville Police Department filed a five-count complaint against the Oswego man, alleging two counts of Official Misconduct (Class 3 Felony), one count of Burglary (Class 3 Felony), one count of Theft – Government (Class 4 Felony) and one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony). The same day, DuPage County Circuit Court Judge Kishori Tank issued an arrest warrant for the suspect, who turned himself in to authorities and was released from custody.

Prosecutors allege that on February 10, 2024, the suspect unlawfully entered a parked vehicle at the Naperville Fire Department located at 1380 Aurora Avenue, Naperville, with the intent to commit a theft. Following further investigation into the car burglary, it is alleged that between February 1 and February 10, 2024, the suspect stole prescription medication from the Naperville Fire Department prescription drug drop box located at 601 East Bailey Road, Naperville.

“The allegations against [the suspect] are very serious,” Berlin said. “I would like to stress however, that these allegations are levied against an individual and are in no way indicative of the Naperville Fire Department as a whole. This appears to be an isolated incident and no other employees with the Naperville Fire Department were involved.”

The suspect’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 15, 2024, for arraignment in front of Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
