An Elgin man has been indicted for the brutal murder of his infant son in 2021.

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Elgin Chief of Police Ana Lalley announced that a grand jury has indicted the 23-year-old man for the offenses of First-degree murder (8 counts) and Aggravated battery, Class X felony (19 counts).

According to the grand jury, on March 8, 2021, the defendant inflicted injuries on his infant son, including blunt-force head trauma, causing the chid’s death. Davis also is charged with 10 counts of aggravated battery to the infant.

The defendant was also charged with inflicting injuries on a female infant, whom he knew, over a period of three months beginning in November 2020 and ending January 2021, resulting in nine counts of aggravated battery.

The defendant was taken into custody in late December in Pettis County, Missouri. He agreed to waive an extradition hearing and was transported to Kane County on January 3, 2024. He remains in the Kane County jail.

The defendant is scheduled to appear in Courtroom 305 today at 1:30pm to schedule a detention hearing.
