A 39-year-old woman from Blackberry Township just outside of Elburn has been charged with multiple DUI-related crimes after the car she was driving left the road and landed in a ditch late Saturday evening.
Two children, ages 7 (from Elburn) and 8 (from Sugar Grove), were passengers in the vehicle when the accident occurred.
At approximately 11:45pm Saturday, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 42W000 block of Hughes Road in Blackberry Township for a report of a single vehicle crash with minor injuries. Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a damaged black Honda CRV that had driven off the roadway and had settled in a ditch.
Investigators determined that the Honda CRV, driven by the accused, was heading westbound on Hughes Road and, for unknown reasons, left the roadway, causing the vehicle to turn on its side and come to a stop in the ditch. The vehicle had two female, juvenile passengers, ages 7 and 8, who sustained outward bruising, head injuries, and lower torso bruising during the time of the crash.
All individuals involved in the crash were transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital for treatment. It appears that seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash, and airbags deployed.
Information received from the suspect indicates that impairment appears to be a factor in the crash.
The Kane County States Attorney’s Office has charged the suspect with 5 counts of Aggravated DUI- 3rd violation, Class 2 felony; 5 counts of Aggravated DUI- Great Bodily Harm, Class 4 felony; 10 counts of Aggravated DUI- Bodily Harm to Child, Class 4 felony; and multiple misdemeanors and citations, including 2 counts of Endangering the Life or Health of a Child; Possession of Cannabis by Driver; and Violation of an Order of Protection.
