A 32-year-old Algonquin man has been charged with mulitple counts of sexual assault, battery and unlawful restraint after allegedly holding his girlfriend at knifepoint for a period of several hours Saturday morning.
At approximately 6:25am Saturday, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 400 block of Natoma Trail in Algonquin Township for the report of a domestic battery between boyfriend and girlfriend that had lasted several hours. During the course of the incident, the woman was reportedly held by knife in a bedroom, unable to leave. Several times, she attempted to call 911 for help, but the phone was taken from her by the boyfriend.
She was finally able to text “help” to her brother-in-law, who was able to arrive at the residence. An altercation ensued between the brother-in-law and the boyfriend, in which the woman was able to escape the confines of the bedroom.
Once law enforcement arrived, they found that the boyfriend had fled the scene. The boyfriend was located a short time later down the road after having crashed his vehicle, sustaining minor injuries.
During initial interviews on scene, the girlfriend informed law enforcement that she and the boyfriend had a dating relationship and was held at knifepoint against her will, unable to contact anyone for help. She sustained visible injuries, and medical attention was rendered.
The accused has been charged by the Kane County States Attorney’s Office with Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault Armed With Dangerous Weapon Other And Firearm – Class X; Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault Acts In A Manner That Threatens The Life Fo The Victim – Class X; Aggravated Domestic Battery Strangle – Class 2; and Aggravated Unlawful Restraint – Class 3.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the victim at this time.
