In a study of 182 cities throughout America, Aurora has been ranked as the 25th safest place to live.
Personal finance website WalletHub published its findings today, which were based on 41 key indicators of safety ranging from traffic fatalities per capita and assaults per capita to the unemployment rate and the percentage of the population that is uninsured.
Aurora’s ranking increased from 37th in last year’s study.
In order to determine the safest cities in which to live, WalletHub compared 182 cities — including the 150 most populated U.S. cities, plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state — across three key dimensions: 1) Home & Community Safety, 2) Natural-Disaster Risk, and 3) Financial Safety.
We evaluated those dimensions using 41 relevant, weighted metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest level of safety.
The study then determined each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample. In determining the sample, only the city proper was considered in each case, excluding cities in the surrounding metro area.
The only other city making the top 150 was, surprisingly, Chicago, which came in at 140th.
