An Elgin man has received a sentence of seven years in prison for disseminating and possessing child pornography.
Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser announced Thursday that 65-year-old Steven J. Young agreed to a sentence of seven years in exchange for a guilty plea to the offense of child pornography – disseminating, victim younger than 13, Class X felony.
Judge John A. Barsanti accepted the plea.
“Being in possession of child pornography and disseminating child pornography are serious crimes that our community does not tolerate,” Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Rodgers said.
According to Illinois law, Young is eligible for day-for-day credit. He receives credit for time served in the Kane County jail. Young had been free on $10,000 bond.
In addition to the prison term, Young must register for life as a sexual offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
Young was identified and investigated by the Kane County Child Exploitation Unit.
