Following the August 15 robbery of a PNC branch in the 600 block of Summit Avenue, two additional bank branches in Elgin have been robbed in the last three days.
On Thursday just after 4pm, police were called to the Elgin State Bank located at 50 Tyler Creek Plaza for a report of a bank robbery. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined that no money was taken, no weapon was involved and no injuries were reported. This incident remains under investigation.
Yesterday at approximately 4:30pm, the Federal Bureau of Investigations responded to a bank robbery at a Chase Bank located at 1600 Larkin Ave in Elgin. According to a release from the FBI, which has nationwide jurisdiction over bank robberies, the suspect implied having a weapon, although no weapon was actually shown.
The suspect in the Chase robbery is described as a Black or Hispanic male wearing blue jeans, a grey shirt, and a tan or black hat. No injuries were reported. Authorities have not released information as to whether money was taken during the incident.
