Former Kane County Sheriff Ken Ramsey, Sr., passed away Saturday morning at his home in Batavia.

Ramsey, a lifelong law man and most recently a Deacon at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia, was 75.

Ramsey started out his career as an officer for the Batavia Police Department in the early ’70s. In 1974 he joined the Kane County Sheriffs’ Office where he went on to be elected Kane County Sheriff in 1994, serving three consecutive terms.

He was the longest serving Sheriff in Kane County history.

In 2014, at age 60, Ramsey became an ordained deacon in the Roman Catholic Church. He was assigned to Holy Cross Catholic Church in Batavia, where he served six years until health issues forced him to step down.

He is survived by Margaret, his wife of 52 years; his children Andrea, Kenneth, Jr., Laura and Theresa; 11 grandchildren; and his sister, Diana and brother, Rick.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 23, from 4:00PM-8:00PM at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2300 Main St. in Batavia. The funeral will be on Thursday, August 24, at 10:30AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 37W210 Fabyan Pkwy in Geneva.
