Actor, construction worker, semi truck driver, entrepreneur. That’s how Rocky Lopez described himself on his Facebook page.
His story, chronicled for years through posts and videos on the social media platform, touched hundreds if not thousands of people throughout the Fox Valley area.
Lopez, 53, died Wednesday evening when the motorcyle he was riding in West Dundee collided with a white Lexus, driven by a 61-year-old woman from unincorporated Dundee. Lopez was pronounced dead on the scene.
Through his Facebook page and other social media, Lopez, a Chicago native but longtime Elgin resident, became an online sensation, diligently updating his ever-growing friends list for years with details about his many ventures, from his foray as a tortilla manufacturer and distributor to his recent budding career as an actor. His openness about his successes and failures, his obvious big-heartedness and his seemingly bottomless optimism attracted fans from all walks of life.
His fans were shocked by the news. From his Facebook page:
Lopez left behind a wife, son, step-daughter and two grandchildren. A GoFundMe page has been established by Christine Lopez on behalf of Lopez’ wife Ravin.
