Two K9 units of the Kane County Sheriff’s Office tracked down an alleged car thief hiding in a corn field in Maple Park Thursday morning.
The suspect was located and arrested and has been charged with Receive, Possess or Sell Stolen Motor Vehicle (one count, Class 2 Felony) and for Obstructing Identification (one county, Class A Misdemeanor).
At approximately 08:38 A.M., Thursday morning, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office received a request from the Sycamore Police Department to be on the lookout for a vehicle that had fled from a traffic stop in their jurisdiction. The vehicle was described as a red in color Hyundai Elantra.
Deputies were able to search immediate areas where the vehicle may have fled to. During the search, a deputy was able to view a vehicle matching the description on Beith Road, which was backed up into a wooded area. The license plates had been taken off the vehicle. The deputy was able to run the VIN on the vehicle and found that the vehicle had been stolen out of Colorado.
Officers set up a perimeter in the area and was able to use two K9 units to continue the search for the subject. The K9 units located a subject walking through the field who identified himself as Miguel Vega, and who confirmed that that he was the driver of the vehicle and had fled from Sycamore Police Department. This was subsequently confirmed by the Sycamore Police Officer that had made the traffic stop.
The subject was taken into custody by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and transported to the Kane County Adult Justice Center. As standard procedure, the subject was fingerprinted. A fingerprint search indicated that the suspect had given a false name.
The suspect is currently being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center with no bond posted.
