Massive House Fire In Campton Hills Causes Over $1 Million In Damages

A massive house fire in Campton Hills Tuesday caused over $1 million in damage, according to a press release from the Elburn and Countryside Fire Protection District.

The home involved, located at 3N137 Woodcrest Court and belonging to Thomas and Vicki Mullally, was estimated to be approximately 5,000 square feet with an expansive 2-story, 4000 square foot garage, which is where, it is believed, the fire started from an accidental malfunction in a vehicle deep in the garage which quickly spread to the contents and the structure.

Due to the lack of fire hydrants available in the area, the alarm was raised first to a mutual aid box alarm and eventually a second alarm for additional water tenders.

Officials described the fire as uniquely challenging given the size and construction of the garage. In addition, the garage contained several vehicles, shop equipment, supplies and hazardous materials including cylinders of compressed gasses and other flammable equipment. It was determined that a defensive approach would be taken, with crews working from outside the structure.

In all, 21 units responded to the scene to assist with fire suppression, water shuttle and station coverage. After several hours, the fire was contained, although personnel remained on-site through Wednesday to control hot spots.

In all, over 300,000 gallons of water were used to extinguish the fire.

No firefighters were reported to have suffered any injuries during the fight.
