“This case is an example of the risk that occurs when people combine guns, drugs and alcohol. Mr. Sebastion should consider himself fortunate that he didn’t kill someone.”
So said Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Mark D. Stajdohar after securing a plea deal with former Milwaukee resident Cameron J. Sebastion in relation to the 2021 shooting of an Aurora man during a New Year’s Eve party.
Sebastian, 25, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony, in exchange for 18-years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Judge Julia Yetter accepted the plea.
On December 31, 2021, Sebastion was attending a New Year’s Eve party at a residence in the 800 block of Huntington Drive, Aurora. Shortly after midnight, Sebastion, who was high on marijuana, fired multiple gunshots from a handgun in the direction of several individuals, striking one of them in the right arm.
Sebastion told police he believed other partygoers were armed and planning to kill him, so he fired his gun first.
In accordance with Illinois law, Sebastion must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. Sebastion receives credit for 490 days served in the Kane County jail.
