An Oswego man is dead after his car struck a semi-truck and was pinned beneath it Wednesday evening.

At approximately 5:17pm on Wednesday, the Montgomery Police Department and Oswego Fire Department responded to a vehicle-versus-semi crash at the intersection of Route 31 and Caterpillar Drive which involved a black Nissan sedan that struck a semi-truck at the intersection.

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle pinned underneath the semi-truck. Responding EMTs pronounced the victim deceased on-scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the sedan was traveling southbound on Route 31 when it failed to stop in time to avoid stiking the the semi-truck, which was traveling northbound on Route 31 and attempting to make a left-hand turn (west) onto Caterpillar Drive.

The driver has been identified as Jason Messick, of the 400 block of Beaver Court in Oswego. The Kendall County Coroner’s Office has taken custody of the deceased. An autopsy is scheduled for today. At this time, the determination of the cause and manner of death is pending autopsy and toxicological testing.

“Our hearts are with Mr. Messick’s family and loved ones as they navigate this heartbreaking loss,” said Montgomery Police Chief Phil Smith. “I would like to thank all of the responding agencies and departments for their assistance and support with this incident.”

The crash remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police, KCART, and the Montgomery Police Department. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Lindholm at 331-212-9050 or by email to llindholm@ci.montgomery.il.us.
