Mayor Lora Vitek joined the family, friends, former teammates and coaches of the late Kevin White for a moving ceremony Saturday at St. Charles North Varsity Field, during which the mayor read a proclamation declaring May 6 to be Kevin White Day in St. Charles.

White, who was tragically killed in an auto accident last August on Randall Road, was honored and celebrated after the game between St. Charles North and St. Charles East. (St. Charles East won 4-2.)

The event was organized by the teams and The Kevin White Foundation, a charitable organization founded after his death to honor his legacy and help young players grow their skills on and off the field.

The game started with a ceremonial first pitch thrown by Kevin’s nephew, Mason.

All St. Charles North and St Charles East players and coaches wore White’s #20 jersey during pregame. The number will be retired by both teams in honor of White.

Following the conclusion of the game, a ceremony to commemorate what Kevin meant to the SCN Baseball program was held, with Vitek and St. Charles North head coach Todd Genke making remarks, sometimes through tears.

A framed jersey that Kevin once wore was presented to his family.

Afterwards, the Foundation hosted a cookout and offered Jersey Mike’s Subs for both teams.
