You may not know the names, but you will recognize the music at the Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s Friday Favorites: Music You Know Spring Edition concert on Friday, April 21. The 6:30 p.m. concert will be held at Second Baptist Church of Elgin, 1280 Summit Street.
Tickets must be purchased in advance through the Elgin Symphony Orchestra’s website, www.elginsymphony.org, or box office, 847-888-4000, Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Antoine T. Clark will conduct this concert, which features favorites from theater (Overture to “The Barber of Seville,” Grieg’s “Morning Mood”), American traditions (Florence Prices’ “Suite of Dances”, Copland’s “Simple Gifts”), dance music from Dvořák and Brahms, Grainger’s traditional Irish melody “Danny Boy,” and other familiar pieces.
The Friday Favorites concerts, implemented by the ESO this season, makes orchestra music approachable to newcomers with its shorter, recognizable pieces, while providing longtime symphony fans a chance to hear some of their favorite compositions in a more intimate setting.
