As reported previously, an Elgin man was found stabbed to death in a home in the 300 block of Ryerson Avenue Sunday evening. The man has now been identified as 56-year-old Peter J. Lopez.

His alleged assailant, a 57-year-old woman who lived with him in the residence, has now been charged with murder.

At 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Elgin policeofficers responded to the 300 block of Ryerson Ave. for a report of a stabbing. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male subject with injuries who was subsequently pronounced deceased on the scene. The accused was taken into custody at that point.

Today, Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser and Elgin Chief of Police Ana Lalley announced that the accused has charged with the offense of first-degree murder, two counts, for stabbing Lopez once in the chest, causing his death.

The accused appeared today in Kane County bond court. Judge Salvatore LoPiccolo set her bail at $2 million, with 10 percent ($200,000) to apply for bond.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 21, 2023 at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 211 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

If convicted, she faces a sentence of between 20 and 60 years of imprisonment in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
