A driver who was allegedly intoxicated caused a four-vehicle crash yesterday afternoon on Route 47 north of Galena Boulevard.
At approximately 4:38pm, Yorkville police were summoned to investigate a crash that left four vehicles in the Rob Roy Creek, which runs parallel to Route 47.
According to police, the suspect, a 44-year-old man from Aurora, was traveling Northbound on Rt. 47 when he crossed the center line and sideswiped two vehicles. He then struck a fourth vehicle head-on. All four vehicles ended up in the Rob Roy Creek.
The water level in the creek was very low, so no vehicles were submerged and there was no entrapment. The drivers involved reported attempting to avoid being struck by the suspect’s vehicle by veering off the roadway in the direction of the creek.
Investigating officers rendered aid and were assisted by Bristol Kendall Ambulance. Four people were transported to Rush Copley Hospital with minor injuries and two additional people were released on scene.
The suspect, who was transported to the hospital for minor injuries, was subsequently charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Upon his release from the hospital he was transported to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office for booking.
