Lingering icy road conditions lead to tragic results Sunday morning when an F-150 truck slid into and oncoming lane in Hampshire and struck a Prius head-on, killing its driver.

At approximately 9:06am, Kane County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an accident with serious injuries in the 45W100 block of Allen Road in unincorporated Hampshire Township.

Initial investigation indicates that a 1997 Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Allen Road when, due to an icy roadway, the driver, 60-year-old Jose Vieyra of Hampshire, lost control and traveled into the westbound lane and struck a 2013 Toyota Prius driven by 80-year-old William Granias of Huntly, who was traveling westbound on Allen Road.

Vieyra and his passenger were both released at the scene while the Granias, who was traveling alone, was flown out via helicopter to Condell Hospital with life threatening injuries where he was later pronounced deceased.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Pingree Grove PD, Hampshire PD and the investigation is still on going by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office investigations Division and the Kane County Drone Team.  If anybody was a witness or has any information relating to the crash please contact the Kane County Investigations Division at 630-444-1103.

It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
