An Aurora man was kill last Friday when his car crashed into a cement pillar supporting a railroad overpass on South Broadway in Aurora.
According to a police press release, on January 13, 2023, at approximately 2:16 a.m., the Aurora Police Department responded to a report of an accident with injuries at the intersection of South Broadway Street and East Benton Street.
When officers arrived on scene, they found that a vehicle, which investigators believe was driving southbound on South Broadway Street, had impacted a cement pillar supporting a railroad overpass at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was engulfed in flames when officers arrived. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident. Due to the extent of the impact, the positive identification of the driver took a considerable amount of time.
The driver was identified as Israel Mueller, 27, of the 500 block of South Lincoln Avenue, in Aurora.
