Update: Driver Injured In Fiery Crash On I-90 Dies From Injuries; 8 Total Dead, Including 5 Children

Update: ISP reports that 32-year-old Thomas Dobosz, who was one of the drivers in the fiery crash on I-90 near Hampshire on Sunday, has died from his wounds. Everyone involved in the crash, 8 in total including 5 children, perished.


The victims of Sunday’s tragic car crash have now been released by the Illinois State Police:

DRIVERS:

Unit 1 – Jennifer Fernandez, 22-year-old female of Carpentersville, IL – Deceased
Unit 2 – Thomas Dobosz, 32-year-old male of Rolling Meadows, IL – Serious Injuries

PASSENGERS:

Unit 2 – Lauren Dobosz, 31-year-old female of Rolling Meadows, IL – Deceased
Unit 2 – 13-year-old female of Rolling Meadows, IL – Deceased
Unit 2 – 13-year-old female of Rolling Meadows, IL – Deceased
Unit 2 – 7-year-old male of Rolling Meadows, IL – Deceased
Unit 2 – 6-year-old male of Rolling Meadows, IL – Deceased
Unit 2 – 5-year-old female of Rolling Meadows, IL – Deceased


A van and passenger vehicle crashed head-on early this morning on I-90 near Hampshire in an apparent case of wrong-way driving that lead to both vehicles being engulfed in flames and seven people dead.

According to Illinois State Police, at approximately 2:10am this morning Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a wrong way driver on I-90 near mile marker 33.5. A van and a passenger vehicle crashed in a head-on collision and both units became fully engulfed in flames.

There are seven confirmed fatalities at this time: one adult female and five children from the van and an adult female from the passenger vehicle. One person was airlifted to a local area hospital with severe injuries. 

All westbound lanes of Interstate 90 westbound near milepost 33 were closed for the investigation, but all lanes are now open.

The crash is under further investigation. It is unknown at this point whether alcohol or other intoxicants were involved in the accident.
