What police are calling an “altercation” between two individuals in Elgin last night led to the fatal shooting of a dog.
At approximately 8:44 p.m. yesterday evening, officers responded to the 200 block of Gifford Place for a report of shots fired. The preliminary investigation revealed that there was an altercation between subjects, and at some point, a subject discharged a firearm, striking a dog.
The dog was deceased upon the arrival of officers, and a juvenile subject was taken into custody on scene.
This is the 23rd gunfire incident in Elgin this year.
Detectives from the Major Investigations Division are continuing the investigation.
