4 FOR THE WEEKEND
where there’s only 289 days until Christmas!
So let’s get to it, starting with…..
Fairness on St. Paddy’s Day
Ok, this week we had a conundrum (yes, we had to look up the spelling…I mean, how often do you type the word “conundrum?”)..
Anyway, where were we?
Oh yes, our conundrum (that’s three times!). As those of you who don’t reside in a mine shaft know, St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated this weekend. Yes, it’s technically Monday, but you know the drill.
So, the Fox Valley has three really good St. Paddy’s Day parades: St. Charles, Naperville and Dundee. Do we smush them all into one post? Do we post one as “representative” and ignore the other two? Or do we give each one slot?
These are the things that keep us up at night. (Well, that and a lot of drugs.) So we decided to go full St. Paddy and give each their own day in the sun, as it were. Maybe the wrong call, but hey, this is a free enewsletter. Ain’t no refunds.
So, we’ll start with St. Charles….

And Now Dundee….
Dundee’s St. Patrick’s Day has the distinction of being the only celebration that includes fireworks.
That is, unless those live wires in St. Charles start playing with their leftover 4th of July stash after throwing a few back at McNally’s. If that happens, hoo-boy things could get interesting….

…And Last But Not Least, Naperville
Finally, Naperville.
(That sounds like a great city motto, right? Ok, maybe not.)
Naperville’s parade is put on by an outfit called the West Suburban Irish.
Does that name sound threatening to you? It’s almost gang-like. Is there a rival group of tough Irishmen called the “Inner Suburban Irish” or “Collar Counties Irish” that have turf battles over which pubs belong to which group?
One thing’s for sure. Ain’t no “North Shore Irish.” “North Shore WASPs” perhaps…

And Finally…
Since we’re all out of St. Partick’s Day parades, we thought we’d go a little highbrow.
The Martini Room in Elgin is hosting what we thought was a pretty cool event tonight (Friday). They call it “Cocktails & Quartets With The Elgin Symphony Orchestra.”
It’s basically a mix of martini’s and a quartet from the ESO playing romantic songs, all in the sophisticated ambiance of the The Martini Room.
We just thought it was a really great idea. And good ol’ St. Patrick is nowhere to be seen.

Kind of a mixed bag in the weather department this weekend. Today and tomorrow will be cold but sunny, with the exception of potential flurries later this evening. Then Sunday we shoot up to a high of 52 with no precipitation. All in all, better than a sharp stick in your eye. (Don’t ask.) As ever, do plan accordingly.
If, for whatever reason, none of our fabulous four events doesn’t pop your cork, we’ll be very insulted. However, all hope is not lost. Simply go to www.foxvalleymagazine.com and check out our A+E and Events sections for other ideas.
Finally, please do us a favor. We would be eternally grateful if you could share this with some of your unsuspecting family, friends and neighbors. We’d also appreciate some love on our Facebook page (see below). Ok, technically it’s a “LIKE,” but don’t be pedantic. Also, that’s actually two favors. We’ll owe you.
Thanks for reading. Until next time…OH! One more thing. If you’re reading this via the website and would like to have this emailed to you bright and early every Friday morning, please SUBSCRIBE!
