An allegedly suicidal Chicago man was arrested Thursday after an hours-long stand-off during which he shot a gun into the air and Naperville police helped rescue a woman fleeing his apartment.
On December 30, at approximately 7:38 p.m., Naperville police officers responded to a 911 call in the 1800 block of Michigan Avenue. The caller reported that a subject was suicidal and had access to guns.
As officers were arriving and securing the area, the male subject exited an apartment and discharged a firearm into the air. Officers were able to assist a female with exiting the apartment and the male subject retreated into the apartment.
The Naperville Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were brought in and, over the course of several hours, the immediate area was secured and the team was ultimately able to take the subject into custody without further incident.
The female victim suffered minor injuries. There were several firearms also recovered from the apartment.
The suspect, a 35 year-old Chicago man, was arrested and charged with one felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.
