The Elgin Police Department this morning posted a statement on it’s Facebook page addressing reports circulating about a TikTok post that suggested a threat to unnamed Elgin schools.

“Currently there is no credible information indicating this is a legitimate threat to any school in Elgin.”

“We are aware of threats towards schools that are circulating from a TikTok post and have received several phone calls reporting screenshots of this post. We have been in communication with School District U-46 and will continue to share information with them. Currently there is no credible information indicating this is a legitimate threat to any school in Elgin.”

The statement further indicated that, despite the lack of credible information suggesting that the threat was legitimate, Elgin police officers will be conducting extra patrols of schools for the remainder of the week and will continue to monitor social media for any information.

EPD encouraged students to talk to their School Resource Officers, school administrators, or any other trusted adult, and immediately report any suspicious activity to them.
