“It’s a miracle anyone made it out of there alive!”
A 42 year-old Chicago man is fighting for his life in hospital after his car collided with a semi-truck in Naperville early Tuesday afternoon.
At approximately 1:08 p.m., the Naperville Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of IL Route 59 and Platinum Avenue for a crash involving a silver 2007 Dodge Charger driven by a 42-year-old male out of Chicago and a white 2015 Freightliner driven by a 36-year-old male out of Chicago. Platinum Avenue is located between North Aurora Ave and Diehl in Naperville.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Dodge Charger was traveling southbound on Route 59, crossed over the median and collided with the Freightliner truck.
The driver of the Dodge Charger was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a passenger in the Dodge Charger and the driver of the Freightliner were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
An eye-witness to the aftermath of the collision expressed amazement that anyone survived the accident.
“I saw the Dodge on my way home from work,” wrote Sabrina Lewis on the Naperville PD Facebook page. “It’s a miracle anyone made it out of there alive!”
Due to the nature of the incident, accident investigators and traffic crash reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police Department Traffic Unit and the Illinois State Police responded to the scene. Northbound Route 59 was closed from North Aurora Road to Brookdale Road as a result of the crash.
