Sports Medicine In The Fox Valley | Fox Valley Orthopedics

If you have been dealing with aches and pains that have lasted for more than a week, don’t put off getting help another day. At Fox Valley Orthopedics, we can help you get back to a pain-free, comfortable life. For more than 45 years, our skilled team of orthopedists have served members of our community when injuries, illness, and aging have reduced their quality of life.

Pain can strike anywhere, and at Fox Valley Orthopedics you will find a team of skilled orthopedists, each of whom specialize in different areas of the body. Whatever type of pain you are experiencing, we have someone who can help. The first step is to tell us where it hurts. We don’t expect you to know everything about what’s causing your pain. Our team utilizes proven diagnostic procedures to find out where pain is coming from and apply the most efficient treatment. Getting you back to your normal, pain-free life as soon as possible is our goal.

Our motto is “Always First”. Fox Valley Orthopedics has been providing exceptional orthopedic care for over 45 years. Our doctors are board certified and offer specialized expertise in their chosen field. We offer state-of-the-art treatments such as outpatient total joint replacement and cartilage restoration, while actively researching the next generation of orthopedic technologies. Our Ambulatory Surgery Center and in-house imaging ensure both uncompromising quality and affordable care, while our same-day orthopedic care via OrthoFirst offers added convenience. At Fox Valley Orthopedics, your care is Always First.

Our physicians have been serving the community for over 45 years. We have office locations in Algonquin, Barrington, Elgin and Geneva. Our team also has hospital privileges at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Community Hospital, AMITA Presence Saint Joseph Hospital, Advocate Sherman Hospital, and Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. This empowers us to provide excellent care with the convenience of being close to home.

OrthoFirst is our walk-in clinic where you can be seen by one of our orthopedic specialists on the same day as your injury. This service is less expensive than an ER visit and gives you the chance to be seen by an orthopedic specialist instead of a general emergency room doctor.

We see patients same-day on a “first come first serve” basis in three of our convenient locations.

Walk-in customers after 5:00 p.m. or on Saturdays may be asked to pay a retainer fee if insurance benefits cannot be verified. This fee will be applied to co-pays and service charges after insurance is verified.

    Sports Prevention Tips

With the sports season in full play, sports medicine surgeons at Fox Valley Orthopedics offer the following tips for sports injury prevention:

Incorporate technique, protection and warm-ups: Always implement proper injury prevention such as practicing proper technique, wearing well-fitting protective equipment, and performing gentle warm-ups and whole-body stretches before and after workouts. –Vishal Mehta, M.D.

Conditioning and training: Implement a training regimen that focuses on agility, balance, and power; include a warm up, stretches, strengthening exercises, plyometrics, agility drills, and a cool down.  –Timothy Petsche, M.D.

Tackle prevention head on: Protective headgear is an important part of summer sports injury prevention. Most concussions resolve on their own without permanent damage, but a blow to the head can be potentially life threatening. And, over time, multiple concussions can cause cumulative, serious brain damage.  –James Sostak, M.D.

10% Rule: Do not increase your training program or physical activity by more than 10% per week.  –Michael Kogan, M.D.

Guard your shoulders: Young athletes who dislocate their shoulders are much more likely to have recurrent instability issues with that shoulder. Early prevention can keep this from occurring.  –James Seeds, M.D.

Low weights, high reps: When trying to build muscle or rehab an injury, always perform exercises with smaller weights and more reps, rather than a heavy weight for one or two reps. Taking on heavier than appropriate weight without working up to it is a recipe for orthopedic injury, whether new or tearing the area that has already been repaired.  –Joshua Alpert, M.D.
